Spring Tournament - Ken McGowan Reports the Action
Sunday 25th April saw the staging of the Spring Mixed Doubles Tournament. I
am a new member (having joined after the last Return to Sport course)
and was a little apprehensive about taking part in a 'real' competition.
I needn't have worried however as, apart from slipping and falling on my
backside in the opening game, I had a very enjoyable time!
As luck would have it there were 16 people (9 male and 7 female) which made 8
pairs, only one of which required a man to play the role of a woman
(name and address withheld!). Every pair had to play the other seven
pairs, and with the lady partner swapping sides halfway through each
match you ended up playing the same number of games against your partner
as you did with them. Points were collected for each game you won, and
the end result was a final featuring Lesley Johnson & Tim Ward and Sue
Hubbard & Paul Johnson, with Lesley and Tim coming out as clear winners.
The format of the competition meant that you got to partner a lot of different
players and play against everyone - an excellent way to get to meet
other members of the club. I would recommend it.
