We ran the 3rd Return to Sport course during the Autumn, an initiative from Sport Hampshire and Isle of Wight, funded through East Hampshire District Council. The purpose of the initiative is to encourage people to play the game who
would otherwise not have the confidence or opportunity to get back on
the courts. An article in the Alton Herald and a poster campaign locally
attracted eleven participants who had either had long breaks from
tennis, or who had never played at all. The group met each Thursday morning through October and into early November for a six-week course with our coach Jonathan Ripper, who went through a
programme of fun activities, coaching and competitions. The enthusiasm
levels flourished, and all were keen to continue playing after the end
of the course. Seven of the eleven have become members of Alton Tennis
Club as a result, and (when the weather permits!) can ben seen on court
each Thursday morning continuing to hone their skills. Why not join them
if you can (9.30 to around 11.00a.m.)? Following the success of this course, the Club is hoping to run another in the Spring.
If you are interested in participating, or know someone who might like to do
so, please contact Sue Hubbard on 01420 87709 01420 87709 or emailsue@aspiretoperform.co.uk.
