Council backs plans for development of tennis in Alton
January 1st 2009. We are delighted to be able to report that at a recent Alton Town
Council meeting, the Recreations Committee voted in favour of funding
the expansion of tennis facilities at Alton Tennis Club. The funds
(subject to future final approval) will be available under the
Developers Contributions for Public Open Spaces, and are intended for
public benefit, providing valuable inward investment into the Community,
critically needed enhancement to the sports facilities available to the
community, and an extension of the already successful junior coaching
programmes being run by Alton Tennis Club
As many of you know, we have been working for many years to secure the
funding needed to provide the tennis facilities that a town the size of
Alton needs. This recent funding support is a crucial step to realising
the vision. We already have support from many sources, including the Lawn
Tennis Association.
We are extremely grateful to the Council for wheir wholehearted support,
and look forward to being able to provide tennis facilities that our
town will be proud of.
