Alton Ladies pull off a great performance against Camberley A
On a frosty December morning we headed for Camberley A for the last match of
2007. They were near the top of the Premier League
and we had come up from Division 1 and although we had drawn a number
of matches, we were finding our first win a little difficult to
achieve.
Sheila Sclater and Lesley Johnson partnered each other, playing some superb
tennis to achieve a 6-3, 6-1 win against their first pair and a 6-0,
6-3 win against the second pair. Lesley and Sheila
were really “on fire”, they commented afterwards that they had played
some of their best ever tennis and had made very few errors all
morning.
Sue Hubbard and Cathy Robinson lost to the first pair 6-4, 6-4, but then with
Sheila and Lesley already having coffee and watching anxiously, Cathy
and Sue achieved a good win against the 2nd pair in a 3rd
set tie break. In the end at 8-8 in the tie break,
Cathy’s excellent smash followed by a Camberley double fault won the
match forAlton.
We were totally delighted with the team performance. Well
done to all.
